We know, Happy Navratri commences on the first and ends on the tenth day of the bright half of the lunar month Asvina. This year , it started on 8 th Oct and ends on Saraswathi Pooja..ie. 16 th Oct, with Vijayadasami celebrated on 17 th Oct 2010..!
In this festival season, we used to invite all the friends, relatives & neighbours over to home, to look at the Golu and participate in the pooja. In Golu, the dolls are decorated beautifully in wooden plank steps. And they are meant to represent the Goddess Mahishasramardini sitting on her throne..!
And this festival is celebrated with great joy to commemorate the victory of the good over the evil..!
During this auspicious moments, devotional songs or shlokas are chanted...!!!
After performing the pooja, the food items, sweets and sundal that have been offered to the Goddesses are given as prasadam to all…! Also , Kumkum, flowers and a small bag of gifts are given to girls & married women..!
Am glad to share with you the traditional Golu pics of Navratri Pooja , which is being celebrated in my Loving Aunt Mrs. Parvathy’s house…! My Aunt and her young daughters, used to decorate Golu each year very innovative and eye catching...!
RECIPE TIME :
Peas Sundal :
One of the famous food dish, prepared for pooja offering is Peas Sundal…!
Here is the delicious & tasty recipe for to enjoy…!!!
Ingredients:
- Dry peas - 1 cup
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Asafetida pwd - a pinch
- Mustard - ¼ tsp
- Cumin - ½ tsp
- Split urad dal - 1 tsp
- Red chilly - 2 or 3
- Grated coconut flowers - 3 tbsp
- Curry and coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
Method:
- Soak dry peas in water for 7 to 8 hrs.
- Pressure cook the peas by adding half cup water and little salt.
- Heat oil in pan.
- Temper with asafetida, mustard, cumin, split urad dal, red chilly and curry leaves.
- Add grated coconut flowers.
- Taste and adjust salt.
- Sauté for a minute.
- Add cooked peas, mix well.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Healthy, tasty Peas Sundal ready to be offered as prasadam to God ..!
