Home made Oma Podi / Sev / Step -by - Step / Diwali Snack Recipes





 








Oma Podi : 




Diwali is round the corner and its time to enjoy the savory snacks that makes perfect combo with delicious sweets...!!!
 
Oma Podi / Sev is a savory recipe, which is quick to make at home with rich aroma of Ajwain. Also, chaats would be incomplete without these crispy Snack sprinkled on  it. 




It makes a perfect recipe for a  nice teatime too..:)


Here is a simple step by step to prepare this Sev at home...!












Ingredients:


















  • Gram flour / Chickpea / Besan flour / Kadalai Maavu -  4 cups

  • Omam /  Ajwain / Bishop Weed                                 - 2 tbsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to fry













Method:






















  1. Soak Omam in water for 1 ½ hours.























  1. Boil it with water to get Omam water.

  2. Allow the water to cool.

  3. Now filter the water and keep it aside for mixing the dough.

  4. In a wide vessel, take  gram flour and salt.

















  1. Add the Omam water and knead to soft dough.

  2. Make equal portions of the dough.

  3. Heat oil in a kadai or  fry pan















  1. Grease a Sev /  Oma podi press with oil.



















  1. Fill in some dough and press directly in hot oil in concentric circles.

  2. Wait and allow to cook.















  1. Flip gently to other side.

  2. Deep fry till nice and golden yellow color comes.

  3. Take it aside. And drain in kitchen tissue.





















  1. Give a gentle press and make small pieces.





















  1. Home made flavorful Oma Podi / Sev  ready to enjoy with a hot cup of coffee...:)

Rava Kesari / Sooji Ka Halwa / Semolina Pudding















Rava  Kesari:








Tasty Sweet Kesari is a delicious South Indian dessert. This is prepared with Sooji  Rava, sugar and ghee. I have prepared this for  Navratri  Pooja  as Prasadam to God . 



This festival special recipe is very easy to prepare and gets done under 15 minutes with minimal ingredients.
Its optional to use saffron soaked in milk for orange color, instead of using orange food color. And adding sugar is up to your taste.




Give a try to this Rava Kesari dessert and please your sweet teeth…:)






Ingredients:






  • Rava /  Sooji                             - 1 cup

  • Sugar                                       - 1 cup

  • Milk                                          - 1 ½ cup

  • Ghee                                        - 5 to 6 tbsp

  • Cashew nuts & Raisins              - as per taste

  • Cardamom pwd                         - a pinch

  • Orange food color                     - ½ tsp

  • Water                                        - ½ cup











Method:





















  1. Heat 3 tbsp of ghee in a fry pan.

  2. Fry cashews and raisins to golden.

















  1. Keep it aside.

  2. Now fry Rava, sauté it till nice aroma comes out and turns light brown color.















  1. Take it aside.

  2. Add milk, sugar  and water.

  3. Allow to boil with stirring.











  1. Add  Rava little by little, and keep stirring.

  2. Make sure no lumps are formed.













  1. Add  orange food color and mix.

  2. Drizzle the remaining ghee as well.















  1. Stir continuously till it turns thick in halwa consistency.

  2. Add roasted cashew , raisins and cardamom pwd.

















  1. Tasty Sweet Kesari is ready to enjoy..!
