Home made Oma Podi / Sev / Step -by - Step / Diwali Snack Recipes





 








Oma Podi : 




Diwali is round the corner and its time to enjoy the savory snacks that makes perfect combo with delicious sweets...!!!
 
Oma Podi / Sev is a savory recipe, which is quick to make at home with rich aroma of Ajwain. Also, chaats would be incomplete without these crispy Snack sprinkled on  it. 




It makes a perfect recipe for a  nice teatime too..:)


Here is a simple step by step to prepare this Sev at home...!












Ingredients:


















  • Gram flour / Chickpea / Besan flour / Kadalai Maavu -  4 cups

  • Omam /  Ajwain / Bishop Weed                                 - 2 tbsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to fry













Method:






















  1. Soak Omam in water for 1 ½ hours.























  1. Boil it with water to get Omam water.

  2. Allow the water to cool.

  3. Now filter the water and keep it aside for mixing the dough.

  4. In a wide vessel, take  gram flour and salt.

















  1. Add the Omam water and knead to soft dough.

  2. Make equal portions of the dough.

  3. Heat oil in a kadai or  fry pan















  1. Grease a Sev /  Oma podi press with oil.



















  1. Fill in some dough and press directly in hot oil in concentric circles.

  2. Wait and allow to cook.















  1. Flip gently to other side.

  2. Deep fry till nice and golden yellow color comes.

  3. Take it aside. And drain in kitchen tissue.





















  1. Give a gentle press and make small pieces.





















  1. Home made flavorful Oma Podi / Sev  ready to enjoy with a hot cup of coffee...:)

Spiced Roasted Peanuts



















Spiced Roasted Peanuts:






I love to include nuts in my daily cooking and this is  very easy to prepare at home. It tastes  flavorful  than store bought ones.


A  bowl of crunchy spiced roasted peanuts and a cup of hot tea is my favorite combo and serves as an excellent mood elevator..!  Also , peanuts are good source of protein. They’re rich in magnesium, iron and copper too.


Try out this  fast and easy recipe of roasted peanuts..:)








Ingredients:






·         Raw peanuts                             - 2 cups
·         Oil  / ghee                                 - 2 tsp
·         Red chilly pwd                           - ½ tsp
·         Salt to taste     








Method:






















1.     Heat oil / ghee  in a  skillet.
2.     Toss peanuts in medium flame for about 12 to 15  minutes.
3.     Add salt and red chilly pwd.
4.     Shake the pan a couple of times during roasting to stir the peanuts.
5.     Roast until peanuts are golden, with constant stirring for even coloring and flavor.


























6.     Watch carefully to prevent scorching.
7.     Remove from flame.
8.     Allow to cool a few minutes before serving, as they will harden up and become crunchier.


























9.     Healthy and comfort roasted peanuts ready to munch with hot tea..!

Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal - Marina Beach Special at home..!















Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal :
 
As  I am  basically, a  born and brought up Chennaian,  am a proud lover of second longest beach in the world, Marina...!!!  It is also the favorite meeting point for young lovers. 




Whenever, we find free time, we won't miss our chance to enjoy the nature of roaring beach and the lipsmacking beach sundal...!   Lots of good memories and times spent here..!


We can see grown up kids selling Thenga  Manga  Pattani  Sundal  all  over.  Tasting the hot and tangy sundals, wrapped in newspaper cones, with watching the sea waves is absolutely unforgettable..!

Let  me  have  the  pleasure  of sharing  this  delicious  recipe  with  you..!












Ingredients:






·         Dried white Peas                                    - 1 cup
·         Grated coconut                                      - 3 tbsp
·         Grated mango                                        - 3 tbsp
·         Oil                                                        - 1 tsp
·         Mustard                                                - ¼ tsp
·         Asafetida                                               - a pinch
·         Red chilly                                              - 1 or 2
·         Curry leaves                                          - a few
·         Split urad dal                                         - ½ tsp
·         Cumin                                                   - ½ tsp
·         Salt to taste
·         Fresh coriander leaves












Method:
















1.     Soak peas in water overnight.
2.     Pressure cook along with a pinch of salt for 3 whistles.
3.     Simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
4.     Drain the excess water and keep aside.
5.     Chop the coconut, coriander and raw mango into thin and small pieces
6.     Split the red chillies to small pieces.
7.     Heat oil in a pan.
8.     Add mustard, asafetida, red chilly, curry leaves, split urad dal and cumin.
9.     Wait to crackle.
10.  Add cooked peas and combine.
11.  Check for salt.
12.  Add grated coconut and mango pieces.
13.  Mix well and remove from flame.




























14.  Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
