Aaloo Masala:





Aaloo Masala:



This is an excellent side dish for puffed hot Puris. The main ingredient is potato which is boiled and smashed and made masala with chopped onion. This side dish  tastes wonderful and kids will empty their plates and ask for more…



Ingredients:



  • Potato                          - 250 g

  • Oil                                - 2 tbsp

  • Onion                          - 2

  • Tomato                        - 1

  • Garlic                          - 6 pods

  • Green chilly                 - 2 or 3

  • Turmeric pwd              - ¼ tsp

  • Besan flour                  - 1 tbsp

  • Lemon juice                - 1 tbsp

  • Coriander leaves

  • Salt to taste



For Seasoning:

  • Mustard seeds                        - ¼ tsp

  • Cumin seeds                           - ¼ tsp

  • Split urad dal                           - ¼ tsp

  • Asafoetida                               - ¼ tsp

  • Curry leaves                          



Method:



  1. Boil potatoes in pressure cooker, until its overcooked.

  2. Let it cool and peel off the skin and smash it completely.

  3. Heat oil in a fry pan, temper with seasonings.

  4. Add chopped onion pieces, toss it to golden.

  5. Add garlic, green chilly followed by chopped tomato and allow to boil  by adding ½ tb water.

  6. Add turmeric pwd, salt and combine well. Allow further to boil for 5 mins.

  7. Now add smashed potato and stir well.

  8. Take 1 tbsp Bengal gram dal pwd (Besan flour) or Bajji Bonda mix pwd and add it to ¼ tb water, mix well to paste. (this adds to the thickness and rich taste of the masala)

  9. Add  this paste to the masala and allow to boil.

  10. Once you get the desired thick masala, turn off the heat.

  11. Add 1 tbsp lemon juice and combine.

  12. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.







                 Serve with hot puffed puris.
