Sprouted Green Moong Dal Masala



This masala is my son’s favorite dish. This combines great with chapatis. It’s a nutritious side dish indeed, coz sprouted moong dal is rich in iron, protein and vitamin E. vitamin E is a potent antioxidant and vital for health.  This dish is very easy to prepare also. Only thing you have to plan it before 3 days, as the sprouts to appear on moong dal.



Ingredients:



  • Green moong dal                    - 100 g

  • Onion                                      - 2

  • Tomato                                    - 2

  • Oil                                            - 3 tbsp

  • Ginger garlic paste                  - 1 tbsp

  • Green chilly                             - 1

  • Turmeric pwd                          - ¼ tsp

  • Red chilly pwd                         - 1 tbsp

  • Garam masala pwd                - ½ tbsp

  • Coriander pwd                        - 1 tbsp

  • Jaggery                                   - little

  • Curry and coriander leaves

  • Lemon drops

  • Salt to taste



Spices:



  • Cloves                                     - 2

  • Cardamom                              - 2

  • Cinnamon stick                       - 2

  • Fennel seeds(saunf)               - ½ tsp



Method:



  1. Wash green moong dal and soak it for 4 to 5 hrs.

  2. Drain water from it  completely and store in air tight container. Keep in refridgerator for 3 days.

  3. You can see the fresh sprouts appeared on moong dal.

  4. Boil this for just 1 whistle in cooker along with peeled & quartered potatoes.

  5. Heat oil, add onion sauté till pink, add ginger garlic paste followed by chopped tomatoes and green chilly..

  6. Fry well. Allow to cool and grind it to fine paste.

  7. Temper oil with spices, add above paste, salt, turmeric pwd, red chilly pwd, garam masala pwd, coriander pwd and allow to cook.

  8. Once it gives fragrance, add boiled moong dal, potatoes, jaggery and  combine well.

  9. See for taste and allow to boil in low heat for about 4 to 5 mins.







  1. Add lemon drops, fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
