Rasam





Rasam:



Rasam is a very good appetizer and has medicinal value. The ingredients added in this are helpful for digestion. It has a strong  aroma and rich flavor. So, after a heavy meal, just a cup of rasam , makes you feel great. Indeed I love to share this tasty recipe with you….



Ingredients:



  • Oil                                            - 1 tbsp

  • Tamarind paste                       - 2 tbsp

  • Tomatoes                                - 2

  • Pepper                                                - 2 tsp

  • Cumin seeds                           - 2 tsp

  • Coriander seeds                      - 2 tsp

  • Red chilly                                - 2

  • Toor dal                                   - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric pwd                          - ¼ tsp

  • Few drops of lemon

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves





To Temper:

  • Mustard seeds                        - ¼ tsp

  • Cumin seeds                           - ¼ tsp

  • Split urad dal                           - ¼ tsp

  • Asafoetida                               - ¼ tsp

  • Curry leaves







Method:   ( serves 4)



To Prepare Rasam Powder:



  1. Heat 1 tsp oil and toss 1 tsp pepper, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp coriander seeds (daniya), 5 curry leaves,  1 red chilly and 1 tsp toor dal.

  2. Cool and grind to coarse pwd.



To Prepare Rasam:



  1. Add 2 ½ tb water to the tamarind paste and mix well.

  2. To this add mashed tomatoes, turmeric pwd, salt and stir it.

  3. Allow to boil. Once the first bubble start coming, add rasam pwd and turn off the flame.

  4. Heat 1 tsp oil in small fry pan, add mustard, cumin, split urad dal, asafoetida, red chilly, curry leaves and allow to splutter.

  5. Add this to the above content.

  6. Add few drops of lemon and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.







  1. Tasty rasam ready to serve.
