Kala Chana Masala / Black Chickpeas Gravy / Spicy Chickpeas













Kala Chana Masala:




Black chickpeas gravy or Kala Chana Masala is one of the most healthy spicy dish. This authentic dish comes from Punjabi Cuisine. 


In this recipe, the black chickpeas is cooked in a thick gravy and made rich and flavored by adding spicy masala powder. It makes a tasty and hearty dish for any occasion.

Ingredients:


















·            Kala chana / black chickpeas soaked   - 1 ½ cup
·            Onion                                                  - 2
·            Tomato                                                - 2
·            Oil                                                      - 1 ½ tbsp
·            Ginger                                                - small piece
·            Garlic                                                 - 5 pods
·            Garam masala pwd                             - ½ tbsp
·            Chana masala pwd                              - ½ tbsp
·            Coriander pwd                                     - ½ tbsp
·            Turmeric pwd                                      - ¼ tsp
·            Red chilly pwd                                    - ½ tbsp
·            Tomato sauce                                     - 1 tbsp
·            Lemon juice                                        - 1 tbsp
·            Salt to taste
·            Coriander leaves










Method:
















1.       Wash and soak kala chana overnight
2.       Pressure cook with a tsp of salt until it is soft.
3.       Heat oil in a pan.
4.       Add chopped onion fry till transculent.
5.       Add ginger and garlic pieces and fry for a minute.
6.       Add chopped tomato and sauté well.
7.       Allow to cool and mash it to paste.
8.       Heat 1 tbsp oil in the same pan.
9.       Add garam masala pwd, chana masala pwd, turmeric pwd and red chilly pwd.
10.    Mix well.
11.    Add the ground paste and combine.
12.    Add salt, tomato sauce and allow to cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
13.    Now add cooked chickpeas along with the liquid.
14.    Keep in simmer for 7 to 8 minutes.
15.    Once the masala attains thick consistency.
16.    Remove from flame.
17.    Add a tsp of lemon juice and mix.
18.    Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.






















19.    Enjoy the healthy and spicy kasa chana masala with hot soft chapattis..:)
