Plantain Stem Moongdal Kuttu



Plantain Stem Moongdal Kuttu: 
( Vazhaithandu paasiparupu kuttu )


This recipe is rich in fibre content, protein, carbohydrate, and calories. This can be easily prepared.  Also a healthy and nutritious side dish, pairs ideal with chapatti or white steamed rice.




Ingredients:


  • Plantain stem                           - 1 piece

  • Moong dal                               - a small cup

  • Turmeric pwd                          - ¼ tsp

  • Coconut pieces                        - ½ cup

  • Cumin seed                             - 1 tsp

  • Green chilly                             - 1 or 2

  • Oil                                           - 1 tsp

  • Mustard                                   - ¼ tsp

  • Split urad dal                          - ½ tsp

  • Asafoetida pwd                      - a pinch

  • Salt to taste

  • Curry leaves



Method:


  1. Clean and cut the plantain stem to fine small pieces.

  2. Heat a dry pan, roast moong dal till it fragrant.

  3. Add hot water and allow to cook covered for 5 mins.

  4. To this add plantain stem pieces, salt, turmeric pwd.

  5. Cook it further for 5 mins in medium flame.

  6. Meanwhile, grate coconut to pieces.

  7. Add cumin seeds, green chilly to coconut pieces and grind it to paste in a blender by adding little water to it.

  8. Add this paste to the above content and combine well.

  9. Simmer the flame and toss it for futther few mins.

  10. See to it the contents are completely cooked.

  11. Heat a tbsp of oil, temper with mustard, asafoetida pwd, split urad dal and curry leaves.





  1. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
