Chapati: (Puffed Indian Bread)

Chapati: (Puffed Indian Bread)

Chapati is a type of Roti or Puffed Indian Bread , liked by one n all, irrespective of ages.

This is mainly prepared from Atta or Wheat flour, water, ghee and salt. It tastes great with cooked dal (lentil soup) or with spicy and curry gravies…

Ingredients:

·         Wheat flour                             - ½ kg

·         Milk                                         - ½ tumbler

·         Melted ghee                            - 3 tbsp

·         Sugar                                       - ½ tsp

·         Salt to taste

Method:

1.      Take wheat flour or Atta flour in a bowl.

2.      Mix salt and ½ sp sugar in  ½ tumbler milk and add it to the flour.

3.      Combine them, knead it to soft dough by drizzling warm water.

4.      Take care in kneading the dough, (shouldn’t be tight or sticky) because the rich soft taste of chapati lies in the texture of dough.

5.      Add 1 tbsp of melted ghee, combine them and keep covered for 5 mins.

6.      Take a small ball of the dough, roll the dough out, into round discs.

7.      Fry the discs to golden brown colour on both sides in a very hot dry tava or frying pan.

8.      Each chapatti is held for about half a second directly into an open flame, to puff up with steam like a balloon.

9.      Once the chapatis are finished, brush them with ghee or clarified butter.

10.  Delicious, soft, puffed chapattis are ready to taste.
