Seepu Seedai

Seepu Seedai:

This is a healthy and tasty snack, which remains fresh for days. I learnt this recipe from my grand mother, who is an expert in crispy crunchy snack recipes. I now enjoy preparing them for my kids.

Ingredients:

·         Raw rice                      - 2 cup

·         Urad dal                      - ¾ cup

·         Asafoetida pwd           - ¼ tsp

·         Butter                          - 3 tbsp

·         Sesame seeds            - 2 tsp

·         Refined Oil                  - 250 ml

·         Salt to taste     -

Method:

  1. Wash and soak raw rice in water for 3 to 4 hrs.

  2. Strain the water from it. Dry on a cotton cloth for 30 mins.

  3. When still damp, grind to a fine pwd.

  4. Sieve the flour and fry it in dry kadai to remove any excess dampness.

  5. Sieve the flour again to remove granules present in it.

  6. Roast urad dal and grind to fine pwd.

  7. Take 2 cup of rice flour and ½ cup of urad dal pwd and mix them.

  8. Add little water, salt, asafoetida pwd, butter, sesame seeds and knead into a fine dough.

  9. Make thenkuzhal using a mould. Roll it to small round shape as shown in the picture.

  10. Transfer it into the hot oil.

  11. At a time, 10 to 15 seepu seedai can be fried.

  12. Take from oil, once it turns golden brown in color.

  1. Crispy, tasty seepu seedai ready to taste.
