Karthigai Deepam Special – Puffed Rice Jaggery Balls

Kaarthigai Deepam – Festival of Lights








Its amazing to see 
Rows of glittering earthen oil lamps outside every home, 
Full moon at the sky 
And the joyous burst of firecrackers . !   










 The lighted lamp is an auspicious symbol that is considered it brings Joy and Prosperity..!




I am happy to share the Pori Urundai recipe , which is a traditional sweet prepared for Kaarthigai.


Enjoy this delectable dessert now...:)




Ingredients:


  • Puffed rice / pori                                   -  2 cups

  • Jaggery  pwd                                         -  ¾ cup

  • Ghee                                                    - 1 ½ tbsp

  • Coconut pieces                                     -  ¼ cup

  • Cardamom pwd                                     -  ¼ tsp





Method:










  1. Heat ghee in a pan.

  2. Add coconut pieces, cardamom pwd and pori to it.

  3. In a separate vessel, add jaggery and little water.

  4. Allow to heat, until it turns thick syrup.

  5. Remove from heat.

  6. Pour this syrup to the pori mix and combine well.

  7. Grease your palms with ghee and start making the mixture to medium sized balls.







  1. Delicious and healthy pori urundai ready to taste now..
